With an area of 1.04 million ㎢, this is Korea’s largest artificial wetland park, and it aims to improve the water quality of the streams leading to Sihwa lake. Its reed forest, bird observatory, and the upper stream of the Sihwa lake provide a great attraction for residents of the Seoul metropolitan area.
The Ansan Reed & Wetland Park is a natural sewage treatment facility using water plants and reeds. This artificial wetland purifies the water of many streams leading to Sihwa lake. Since its opening in 2002, many citizens and tourists have come to visit this eco-friendly park. It also serves as a site for education that provides a natural ecosystem environment.
At the bird observatory near the entrance to the reed & wetland area, visitors can watch many types of birds, which have increased in number since 2002. Sometimes, Osmanthus fragrans, Rosa rugosa, Annual Fleabane, and grey herons hunting for fish can be seen.
